Reenactment dress

First of all, I helped Hannah make a vest to go with Matthews hobbit costume

And the dress Rebecca has is made by Hannah.
Also, I have had this picture saved for longer than I can remember, and I have no idea where I found it

It was love at first sight, and at last I made the pattern and made it. I love how it turned out. I would change just a few things, but not much. It was all sewn on my sewing machine Laura bought me for Christmas which got fixed at last and I can use it!
It has no backstitch or zig-zag stitch so I’ve been using French seams and hand sewing different ways which I will show some here and some in my next post about the little princess EveLynne.

The hemmer foot is so neat. I’m surprised that they don’t have these for newer sewing machines. It makes a 1/8″ seam that looks really good.

Buttonholes are also handsewn.

I hand sewed this zipper in but I used the machine for the dress I made for Faith, which I’ll be posting about next. I also did slip stitching and French seams on the inside so there aren’t any raw edges.

We had a family reunion on Memorial Day. Along with a delicious meal we played horseshoes

Everywhere William goes with that hat, he gets compliments. He says it the best $40 he’s ever spent.

And the little ones played in the pool.

Some of the pictures from the reunion are taken by Sarah, and some by our cousin, and I took a few. It was really nice and everyone had fun.

  2. I love LOVE the pictures in this post!! As well as your new header. Sarah told me about her using a good camera…tell her that these pictures are so so nice and I’m so happy for her! (Tell her to respond to my email too, haha.) that same day she got to use a professional camera – I got to, also… But we were inside the house and I was night so I didn’t really get good results. Wow, I really didn’t realize how nice Sarah’s photography is. She should get a camera. :)
And I really like how the skirt you made for yourself is nice and full.

I think you should have a blog post on how to see a dress. Doesn’t need too many pictures or very tedious instructions…just an brief tutorial on how you sew dresses.

      • I mean, whenever you happen to be making a dress…you could just like post a couple pictures in progress. It doesn’t have to be a tutorial style where every detail is photographed, but just enough photographs for a beginner to know what is going on and an advanced to be able to get motivated/learn more. :) Then we could get a glimpse of how you sewed this regency, or civil war, or anything dress. Every dress will have its little uniqueness.

  3. Yay! Lots of pics :D
I really like that new one of Faith that you have at the top. Also that one of you knitting is beautiful :D

    P.S.
Faith’s middle name is just ‘Evelynne’ ;)
