Raggedy Anne doll tutorial, arm

Before I get into this, I thought you might like to see this really cute nightgown Ma made for Rebecca.

Ma says that I taught myself most of what I know, but if it weren’t for her I wouldn’t know how to sew at all. Thanks Ma, I love you a whole bunch :D

So, for this part, we’ll be sewing the arms. If you haven’t seen the post on sewing the legs, go back and do that.

Make sure the sewing machine is set to medium length stitch (for me 2), and, taking two arm pieces (there should be four altogether) with right sides together, sew around the arm, leaving the top open for stuffing. Stay 1/4 inch away from the edge. Backstitch at the beginning and end.

Clip little triangles around the curve. Do not cut through the stitches. Stay about 1/8 inch away or it might come apart later.

Turn right side out and stuff.

If you didn’t mark the fabric like on the pattern piece, lay the top of the arm pattern piece against the top of the arm and pin the arm at the marking. Don’t pin the pattern onto it. You’ll see the dashed lines about an inch or so down. Pin the arm there. Stitch straight across.

Make sure it is stuffed well and then at the top, pinch the fabric so that the seams are in the center instead of the sides. Stitch a few stitches to hold in place. Did that make sense? Hopefully you can tell by the picture. That’s all there is to the arm. Repeat for the other arm. If you did not understand something, please comment and I’ll try to help. Have fun!
